Safety in otologic surgery

The Surgify Safety Burr is a Finnish innovation featuring an intelligent protective ring that responds to tissue type: upon contact with soft tissue, the mechanism activates to prevent injury, whereas during hard bone drilling, the ring retracts to allow efficient cutting.

In this study, we evaluate the burr's technical performance, drilling efficiency, and safety in temporal bone surgery. The investigations are conducted both under laboratory conditions using cadaveric temporal bones and in the operating room as part of otologic surgical procedures.
