Development of criteria for cochlear implantation candidacy
For individuals with moderate-to-profound hearing loss who no longer obtain sufficient benefit from hearing aids, cochlear implantation has become the standard of care, with well-documented improvements in speech perception, quality of life, and cognitive functioning. In Finland, however, the lack of clear and standardized referral criteria remains a major barrier to the timely and appropriate use of cochlear implants.
The aim of this this study is:
- to develop evidence-based national referral guidelines for cochlear implant candidacy assessment, as well as comprehensive Finnish recommendations for cochlear implantation.
